1. What Condei is
Condei is a notes app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android with a sync service behind it. Your notes, titles, tags, folders and attachments are encrypted on your device before they reach us. We store and move the encrypted copies between your devices.
By creating an account you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
2. Who can use it
You must be at least 13 years old, and able to enter into a contract where you live. One account belongs to one person.
One account has exactly one sign-in method — Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google, a passkey, or an email address and password. Accounts cannot be linked or merged, and we will not attach a second sign-in method to an existing account, because matching accounts by email address is a known way for attackers to take them over. If you signed up with Apple and later try to sign in with Google, you will be told which method the account uses.
3. Your account, and the part only you can do
Condei is built so that we cannot read your notes. The direct consequence is that we cannot get them back for you either.
You are responsible for keeping at least one way to unlock your notes. That means any one of:
- a device already signed in to your account,
- your recovery code,
- your account password, if you set one.
We ask you to save a recovery code when you create your account, and we will not let you finish setup without confirming you have it. It is shown once. We never see it, never store it, and cannot show it to you again — you can only replace it with a new one from a device that is already unlocked.
If you lose every one of them, your notes are permanently unreadable. Not by you, not by us, not by anyone. There is no support procedure, no identity check and no override that changes this. In that situation the app can start you a fresh, empty set of notes on the same account, and the old encrypted data is discarded, because nobody could ever have read it.
Resetting your password lets you sign in again. It does not unlock notes that were already there — only your recovery code or another of your devices can do that.
You are also responsible for keeping your devices secure. Anyone with an unlocked device of yours, or with your recovery code, can read everything.
4. What we cannot moderate
Your content is end-to-end encrypted, so we cannot read, scan or moderate it, and we do not try. When someone reports misuse, or we detect abuse, we act on how an account is used, not on what it contains — for example repeated automated sign-ups, abuse of storage, or attempts to break into other accounts.
Where the evidence about an account's behaviour supports it, we may limit its storage or suspend it. A suspended account can still be deleted by its owner, and its owner can still ask for a copy of the data we hold.
You agree not to use Condei to attack, overload or probe the service or other people's accounts, to get around its rate limits or quotas, or to do anything unlawful. You keep ownership of everything you write. You give us no licence over it beyond the technical one we need to store and transmit the encrypted bytes on your behalf — and since we cannot read them, no broader licence would mean anything.
5. Limits
The service enforces the following, which we may change with notice:
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Storage per account | 5 GiB by default |
| Single attachment | 100 MiB |
| Attachments per note | 100 |
| A single note's content | about 1 MiB of text |
| Sign-in credentials wrapped to your account | 32 |
If you go over your storage quota, new uploads are refused and existing notes stay where they are; delete something or move content into fewer attachments. Sync requests are rate limited per device and per account so that one client cannot degrade the service for everyone.
Condei has no paid tier today. If we introduce one, we will say what it costs and what it changes before it applies to you, and these terms will be updated.
6. Deleted notes, and deleting your account
A note you delete goes to Trash and stays recoverable there for 30 days. After that your app removes it, and the record of the deletion is kept on our server for 30 days so that your other devices — including one that has been offline — learn it is gone.
You can delete your whole account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account, or, without the app installed, at https://api.condei.app/account/delete. Exactly what is erased and when is set out in account-deletion.md and section 8 of the Privacy Policy. In summary: your sign-in, email address and encryption keybag go immediately, and your encrypted data is hard-deleted within 30 days. Deleting the keybag alone makes any remaining copy permanently unreadable.
7. Availability, and what we do not promise
We aim to keep Condei running and your data intact, but we do not promise uninterrupted or error-free service. We may take the service down for maintenance; the account-deletion page stays up even then. We may require you to update your app to keep using the service.
Condei's apps work offline. Your notes live on your devices, and syncing is a convenience on top of that — please keep your own backups. We provide the service "as is" and, to the extent the law allows, make no warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Subject to that, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of profits or business, or for loss of data where you have not kept a copy you could restore from. Our total liability to you in any twelve-month period is limited to [LIABILITY CAP].
Drafting note: these three paragraphs are standard drafting, not derived from any Condei specification. A lawyer must review them, and consumer-protection law in Romania may override parts of them.
8. Suspension and ending the agreement
You can stop using Condei and delete your account at any time.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that we are legally required to act on, or whose behaviour is harming the service or other users. We will tell you and record why, unless a court order forbids us from telling you. A suspended account can still be deleted by its owner and can still ask for a copy of its data.
If we ever shut the service down, we will give you reasonable notice so that you can keep your notes — which, being on your devices already, do not depend on us to exist.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is material we will tell you in the app and update the effective date. If you do not accept a change, delete your account; continuing to use Condei means the new terms apply.
10. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of Romania, and the courts of Romania have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer, this does not take away rights you have under the law of the country you live in.
